Mandatory Self-Declaration Certificate for Advertising in 2024 – How to Apply?

The supreme court on 7th May, 2024, issued a mandatory Self-declaration certificate that is a must for all advertisers or advertising agencies claiming the authenticity of your advertisement.

You might have already heard about the “Self-declaration certificate” that must be issued by advertisers/ advertising agencies effective 18th June 2024.  

The initiative is designed to curb issues like misleading and false advertisements. It is a mandate for various advertisement mediums and requires submission on the following portals accordingly. 

  • Broadcast Seva portal for TV, Radio ads 
  • Press Council of India’s portal for Print, Digital Media ads.

How to Apply for the Self Declaration Form: Here’s a Comprehensive Step by Step Guide  

1: Create a letter for Authorization.

2: Letter of Authorization digital copy with the signature and company seal.

3: Apply for Authorization (Registration process)
on https: https://cbcindia.gov.in/cbc/advt-reg 

4: Next is a two-step verification, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number and E-mail address.

5: Post this step you will receive a password on your mail sent by the press council. 

6: You will see page like this  

Click on the 1st option – Generate Self declaration Certificate  

7: In the next step fill in the details required. 

Here you need to generate the self-certificate which requires you to fill up the following details like:  

  • Product name- 
  • Title of the advertisement- 
  • First release date of the advertisement- 
  • Upload the ad in pdf- 
  • Brief description of the ad in max 200 characters- Explaining the ads purpose. 

8: Post uploading the pdf then download the document that is auto generated (ref to the picture below) 

9: Add your companies’ signature/seal on it.  

10: Then reupload the signed document in the 2nd column (Light Blue)  

11: If you wish to recheck the document, you can view it from the 3rd Column View.   

12: There you have your self- declaration form applied.
